Migration

PIET DEN BLANKEN AND STIJN PEETERS
September 4 to October 9, 2021

Photojournalist Piet den Blanken has been photographing migrants who want to settle in Europe for 25 years along the borders of Europe. Stijn Peeters interprets the migration problem as an artist.

That human-created boundaries do not determine where someone stays is a fact of all times. Migration is of all times. But the reason for migrating is as diverse as humans and their journey and destination.

In the exhibition 'Migration' by Piet den Blanken and Stijn Peeters we see the personal story of today's refugee.

Contemplative Assignment

Together we view the exhibition on the basis of Visual Thinking Strategies. (VTS is a method of art appreciation that is based on “Looking – thinking – discussing” based on three questions.) We thus discuss the displayed works with their themes and the personal interpretation of the students.

Practical Assignment

What would you take with you if you had 1 bag to fill? Imagine; you are told to leave, your living environment has become unsafe and it is vital to leave it as soon as possible. You have little time and only a backpack or overnight bag to take your personal belongings with you. You do not know where you are going and how long you will have to travel. What do you take with you in your bag?

Photograph your belongings and bag.
