Fotografie en Schilderkunst - Lezing door Aldwin Kroeze

Waar men eeuwenlang via 'Ut Pictura Poesis' (poëzie is net als schilderkunst) de schilderkunst vergeleek met de literatuur, of via de 'Paragone' (competitie) de schilderkunst in confrontatie bracht met de beeldhouwkunst, kwam er in de 19e eeuw een heel nieuw medium bij: de fotografie. Vanaf vrijwel de eerste stappen werden er bij dit medium nog hechtere linken gevonden dan in de genoemde vergelijkingen. In de lezing zullen die vroege linken getoond en besproken worden binnen hun context, maar er wordt ook gewandeld naar de hedendaagse tijd. Al bijna tweehonderd jaar zijn de schilderkunst en de fotografie als broer en zus met elkaar verbonden. Keer op keer weten ze elkaar te vinden ter troost, steun en inspiratie en helpen ze elkaar vooruit om verder te groeien in steeds weer nieuwe tijden met nieuwe uitdagingen. Van schilderachtige foto's tot fotografische schilderijen en vele andere werken belooft het een energieke rondedans te worden, een ware 'pas de deux', compleet met Engelse Foxtrot en Weense wals tot en met een passievolle tango.

Aldwin Kroeze is docent kunstgeschiedenis bij o.a. de Vrije Academie, HKU en Codarts. Hij studeerde algemene cultuurwetenschappen aan de Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam nadat hij aan de ArtEZ de opleiding Illustratie en de opleiding eerstegraads docent kunstgeschiedenis en tekenen had gevolgd.

De lezing is georganiseerd door Fotoclub Ericamera in het kader van het 50-jarig jubileum. De lezing is voor iedereen toegankelijk.

Where for centuries people compared painting with literature via 'Ut Pictura Poesis' (poetry is just like painting), or confronted painting with sculpture via the 'Paragone' (competition), the 19th century saw the emergence of a completely new medium in: photography. From almost the first steps, even tighter links were found in this medium than in the comparisons mentioned. In the lecture, those early links will be shown and discussed within their context, but we will also move to contemporary times. Painting and photography have been linked as brother and sister for almost two hundred years. Time and again they know how to find each other for comfort, support and inspiration and they help each other to grow further in ever new times with new challenges. From picturesque photographs to photographic paintings and many other works, it promises to be an energetic dance, a true 'pas de deux', complete with English Foxtrot and Viennese waltz up to and including a passionate tango.

Aldwin Kroeze teaches art history at the Vrij Academie, HKU and Codarts, among others. He studied general culture sciences at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam after completing  studies in Illustration and first-degree teacher art history and drawing at ArtEZ.

The lecture is organized by Fotoclub Ericamera on the occasion of the 50th anniversary. The lecture is open to everyone.
